Are You A No-Reply Blogger?

Apparently a 'no reply' blogger is someone who can't reply to a comment left on their blog because of a settings mishap from the comment leaver.. (click here to get help with that) but what about a blogger who just doesn't know what to say to the person commenting? Do you reply or email?

This happens to me all the time. I can't be the only one. Either someone will just leave a quick sentence saying they've dropped by or will leave a comment complimenting the writing or the blog.

First of all, do I email them or reply to their comment on my blog?
If I reply on my blog, will they even see it?

Maybe I should do both?

It's not easy finding something to say when responding to others, but I don't want to give off the impression that I'm ignoring, so I figured I'd ask you.

  • If you're a blogger: Do you reply to the comment on your blog or do you email the person?

  • To the person commenting: Do you prefer being replied to or emailed?

  1. I usually reply to the comment in the comments.
As someone making a comment, if I am interested in whether the person replied or not I check back.
I was impressed one time when someone did drop me an email thanking me for dropping by their site.

    1. I was impressed also the couple times I was personally emailed and thanked for visiting a site.. I love all these different responses. Some people feel extra special with an email, and some people feel it's getting to personal and don't want their email all over the place. I'm taking all these into consideration as I try to better myself as a blogger.. =)

  2. I rarely comments (unless its spam!) so I'm always happy to answer. #UBP13

  3. I have struggled with this too Samantha. I usually do both, but sometimes things get busy and I miss comments. And with UBP, I just reply on my blog and then also go and chat with people on their blogs.

I think you just have to pick a strategy and stick with that and eventually your readers will know that that's the way you do it.

    1. I totally agree to find what works and stick with it. It's just hard because if I hear that there might be a different way to do things that might be better, I usually check it out and then confuse myself because I'm not sure which one to do at that point. lol I make myself crazy sometimes, it seems like.

  4. If I comment on someone's blog and ask a question, I'll swing by and see if there's an answer (unless I can just subscribe to comments on the post). Also, I don't like it when people email me after I've left a comment. I prefer that they surf over and comment on my blog as well so it's a two way street. I get irritated when I comment and never get a visit back. Maybe that's just me though. I feel like blogging is a community and it should be give and take.

I'm surfing on over from the UBP! Hope you'll swing by and pay me a visit as well. Party on! ::: Tossing Confetti :::

    1. Ah, good to know! Believe it or not, as I read these I feel pretty dumb because I wasn't too sure about clicking that box that gets me to see the replies to my comments.. for some reason, whenever I click that box, it sends me every single comment that comes after I've commented.. Now I'm looking at my own comments and it doesn't look like it even has that option to be notified of replies to your comments?

I've added you on twitter, but your blog url is broken.

    2. Hmmm, I clicked through on my name here and it took me to Google plus, which is what it does now that I've linked my accounts. Is that what was broken? If not I'm at http://www.dayngrzone.com and thanks for the heads up! :)

    3. Yea I don't think I like how they linked it. Makes it difficult to find the blog URL's. I followed you now though! Thanks for coming back to leave your URL. :)

  5. I always reply on the blog to comments. If they're expecting a reply they generally click subscribe to replies so they're see it. If it's just a simple comment like: "nice blog, enjoyed your post" I'll write thanks for stopping by. I usually go check out someone's site if they comment and will write a thanks for stopping by there. The email thing is unnecessary, you're not friends so to me it's crossing a line. It's blog-etiquette, lol. Plus, you don't want your email getting all over the place.

  6. I reply on my blog if the comment is thoughtful and requires an answer. If it is just a nice comment, then I usually go and leave a comment on the other person's blog if they have one. Comment for a comment is a nice policy, I think.

  7. Wow, thanks so much! These are all really great points and I've learned something new. Apparently most people respond to comments instead of email. Good to know! ~ =)

  8. As a blogger, if someone takes the time to comment on my post, I'll reply and thank them. I use CommentLuv and I think now it sends them an email with my comment, but I'm not sure.

What I do like about CommentLuv is that I can see the title of the last post they posted and then I can hop over to their site.
